Melanie Jones OAM is herself a former Australian women’s cricket Test and One Day International player. Since retiring she has forged a media career commentating women’s and men’s cricket around the world for both television and radio broadcasts.
In her playing days for Australia, Jones was part of two successful World Cups and two Ashes campaigns. The middle batter broke the world record for the highest test debut score of 131 and had a reputation for being one of the finest fielders in the game.
While playing, Jones worked across South Africa, England and Australia developing women’s cricket and into retirement turned to a career in sport management before committing full time to cricket commentary in 2017.
Jones’ voice can now be heard across international tournaments like the ICC World Cups and Indian Premier League and is a regular with Fox Cricket over the Australian summer.
The first ever woman to be appointed by a state to the board of Cricket Australia, Jones combines this with her Ambassador role with Indigenous health promotion charity Red Dust and is a strong advocate for the advancement of women in sport.
